School Association Update

Hi All,

Another one done n dusted, a busy year, an eventful year and all things being considered, a year that has seen many positive and substantial changes, upgrades and beginnings of plans for the school’s future.

I’d like to congratulate and acknowledge a really committed Chairperson, Carrie has been a force this year, her leadership has seen many, many projects, events, canteens, raffles, crisis management, principal selection committee, trivia nights, parent&staff meet n greet nights, the list truly goes on & on…. I know Carrie will deflect and quickly look to share this with her assistants and helpers, but, having seen her efforts at close quarters, I would sincerely, on behalf of the school community like to thank her and express how lucky we have been to benefit from your determined, resilient commitment to doing what was needed this year. A truly successful Leader of this year’s School Association. Well done Carrie.

Having mentioned Carrie it would be lapse of me not to congratulate and thank all those, both past and present, that have served on the BPSA.

The school is better for it in every way and the students, our kids, have an enhanced experience at Bicheno, directly related to these efforts.

So, we draw this year to a close and celebrate our achievements, many successful fundraisers, many great social events and the constant reinforcement of the relationship between the school and the community. For many the school is the Heart and soul of this seaside village and so our focus this year was to support this often used quote….

”it takes a village to raise a child”

We believe this focus has been the basis of our decision making and provided the drive and energy to keep on fronting up to meetings, events & ultimately it’s been the guiding principle to our successful year.

And finally, Thank you to all the BPS Staff this year, your presence at Bicheno is noted every day, every week and every term, our children thrive from your efforts and your daily commitment to their education, well being and growth. For this we are truly grateful.

Enjoy the Holidays, stay safe and have a good break…

Thanks all…

Greg the Secretary.

Grade 3/4 Archery Excursion

On the 8th of December, the 3/4 class went to St Helens to learn how to use a bow and arrow.

When we arrived we were greeted by Brady, Phil and Tony. Brady began by teaching us the basics of archery. We were split up into two groups of eight and had some practice shots at targets. We then took in turn shooting at pictures of wild, feral animals. We also discussed how you are not allowed to shoot any animals in Tasmania using an arrow.

After we all had a turn practising, we were split into three groups of six. We then went out into the bush to practise our archery.

When we finished the route, we were told who had gathered the most points. The points system worked with were you hit either the A, B or the C zone on the target. Hitting zone A was worth 20 points which was the highest you could get, B was worth 18 and C was worth 16 points. We got two shoots per location.

If we didn’t hit the target or the bag that it was attached to, we would get no points. If you hit the bag or the background of the picture, then we would get two points.

Grade 3/4 highest scorers were:

  • 1st - Byron Peardon
  • 2nd - Sienna Patmore
  • 3rd - Ocean Adams

We all had lots of fun and hope to go again. We thank Brady, Phil and Tony.

By Ruby and Sienna.

We would like to thank Darren and his crew from “Landscape Now” who completed the new garden and sensory playground over the last two weeks. We cannot thank them enough for their energy and expertise in constructing this fantastic new space for our school community.

Our thanks must also extend to the Apslawn and Greenlawn properties for supplying us with the natural rock elements for this space.
