From the Principal
Our Motto: Friendly Respectful Courageous Learning
Our Commitment: With courage we learn, connecting to people and place. Striving for excellence by being curious, creative and resilient.
Congratulations to all of our amazing students who gave their best on our athletics day. It was a highly successful and fun day, and we managed to dodge the rain squalls! Thanks to everyone who made the day a success, in particular our sports coordinator Mr Kelly, and to the School Association for keeping us well fed and for those who needed it topped up with a superb coffee! The big congratulations goes to Denison house.
I would also like to congratulate our student leaders for the responsible and reliable way they have taken to their new leadership roles. Listening to their speeches last week highlighted the sincerity and commitment they are making to our students, school and to their own self-improvement journey. Their organisation of assemblies, ideas they are identifying for school improvement, their care of our plants and gardens, and their wonderful support of our younger students has been exemplary.
It’s that time of year where our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students prepare to sit the NAPLAN tests. For parents of our clever Grade 3 and Grade 5 students please refer to the information sheet in this newsletter.
The Parks and Wildlife whale rescue training session on Sunday 17th March was a great success with over 55 people being trained up. This is the first of many opportunities we will have to host Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife training courses at our school and also for the broader community. The great news is that we are now a Wilds’cool which means our students will have many real and connected experiences which really fits our commitment statement of: With courage we learn, connecting to people and place. Striving for excellence by being curious, creative and resilient.

Over the remainder of the year we will have many staff taking on leadership roles focussed on quality school improvements in literacy. Bron Pierce is working with literacy coaches from St Mary’s St Helen’s, and our department, focussed on developing an Instructional Model for our schools.
We have Anthony Hill from Plastic Pollution Solutions conducting two workshops at Bicheno PS In the grade 3/4 and 5/6 unit on Tuesday 2 April 2019. The first session in for students only. The second session is open for EON and broader Bicheno Primary School community members. For our school community members attending please confirm your attendance with our school on 6375 1222.

Session 1: Intro to Plastic for Grades 3-6 |

Uniform change
We have been advised from our supplier that the dark blue polo t-shirt recently voted for by the school community is not of high enough quality to meet our standards. We will continue to work with the school to source an appropriate t-shirt. In the meantime, Sandra will be placing a winter uniform order for jackets only. Please place your order by completing the online order form below or contacting the school office

Can you help?
Notice for parents: Online Naplan
Notice for parents: Asthma and Medical Plans in Winter
Have an Asthma Action Plan
Winter brings cold weather and keeps us inside where indoor triggers such as dust mites, pet allergens, smoke and viruses can worsen asthma symptoms. Cold, dry air may cause airways to tighten, making breathing more difficult.
Winter is also the season for colds and influenza. As many as 8 out of 10 asthma attacks in children and 4 out of 10 in adults are triggered by viral infections. All the more reason to have a written asthma action plan. If you do not have a written Asthma Action Plan please discuss this with your doctor next time you visit.
As with any other time of year, it is very important to keep your asthma under control. This includes having regular reviews with your doctor, taking the proper medication regularly as indicated on your Asthma Action Plan and avoiding your asthma triggers.
So please if your child has asthma and is on Asthma medication, please see your doctor about completing an Asthma plan and bringing it to school.
Notice for Parents: Reports
Primary Progress Reports will be sent home with your child tomorrow. Additional copies can be requested by contacting the school office.
