Newsletter Articles

From the Principal

As this is the last newsletter for Term 3 I would like to thank our students, staff, parents and the broader community for their support of our school and in particular our students’ learning achievements.

This week I share the Year 5 NAPLAN data, which like the Year 3 data, we can be very proud of. Reading, Writing, Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation outcomes are above similar schools, Tasmanian and Australian schools. Reading and Writing results also demonstrated strong learning gains of matched students’ scores between 2016 -2018. Year 5 Numeracy results were above similar schools and slightly less than Tasmanian and Australian schools.

I was also very privileged and proud of our students who represented ENE Miners in the Country Gold netball, soccer and AFL. I was fortunate enough to watch our netballers, and AFL teams play and also visit the soccer students between games during the finals. All students were highly competitive with one of the netball teams winning, our soccer girls’ team reaching the final and the AFL boys gained a respectable 5th position against some great teams.

A special thank you to our School Association that organised a wonderful Hoe Down evening. This was an amazing family event and a highly successful fundraiser for our school. The funds will go towards a new shade structure which has been ordered and most likely will be installed in the Christmas vacation period.

Finally I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to a very productive fourth term!

School Association Update

2018 Major fundraiser “Country Hoedown”

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Country Hoedown on Friday 14th September. The school community along with the wider community came together for a fantastic night of dancing, socialising and bull riding. The Pretty Things rocked all night, the bar and canteen kept us sustained, the Side Show Alley was a hit with the kids and Bessie the Bull was the star of the night.

We raised over $12,500 all of which will go directly to our school to support your child’s learning including a permanent shade structure.

Please support the local businesses who provided donations and support for our event, it would not have gone ahead without their kind generosity:

ENE Report

2018 Country Gold Soccer Carnival

On the 20th and 21st of September, 6 students from our school and multiple other students from schools on the east coast travelled up to Faulkner Park, Invermay. We played 2 games of soccer on the first day. We played against North Midlands East and North East. We beat NME (North Midlands East) 3-1 and NE (North East) 2-1. On the second day we went up against our rivals, Tamar, and unfortunately we lost 3-0. Then we played North Midlands West and we won 7-0, which put us through to the Grand finale against Tamar. By the second half no goals were scored, but in the last half Tamar scored twice, which meant we were runner-ups.

We all got certificates and Ruby, Shae and Charli won a place on the All Stars team. That means all the coaches of the teams voted for who they thought were the best on their team.

Thank you to all of the coaches and other people involved, also a big thanks to Grammar for the use of their soccer grounds.

It was a great experience and we can’t wait until next year.
